Frequently Asked Questions
Non-nano refers to the size of the zinc oxide particles in our sunscreen. Specifically, it means the particles are larger than 100 nanometers, which prevents them from being absorbed into the bloodstream. This makes non-nano zinc a safer choice for our little ones and is also gentle on our beautiful reefs and oceans.
It's generally not recommended to apply any sunscreen to babies under 6 months, regardless of what other brands may suggest. This is because their skin is much thinner, and they should be kept out of direct sunlight. Instead, use protective clothing, hats, and shade to shield them from the sun.
If sun exposure is unavoidable, some paediatricians may recommend using a small amount of a mineral-based, non-nano zinc sunscreen (like Sun & Daughter) on limited areas of the body. Always consult with a healthcare provider before applying sunscreen to a baby under 6 months.
Our sunscreen has a creamy consistency that rubs in quickly. Achieving a mineral SPF 50+ requires a thicker texture compared to watery chemical sunscreens due to the use of mineral UV filters like zinc oxide. If you’ve come across a natural sunscreen with a more liquid consistency, it likely contains added seed oils or water, which would also mean the inclusion of preservatives.
However, 96.67% of our testers found that Sun & Daughter feels more lightweight than other natural mineral sunscreens they’ve tried!
Our sunscreen is formulated with high-quality, nourishing ingredients like zinc, shea butter, and castor oil, which help keep your skin hydrated and soft—without any harsh chemicals. It’s always a good idea to wash off sunscreen at night, especially after a day in the sun. We also recommend hydrating the skin with a moisturiser or oil to replenish moisture and keep it healthy. Always patch-test any new product, as everyone's skin is different!
Yes of course! Our sunscreen is designed for both the body and face and everyday use!
Broad-spectrum sunscreen protects against both UVA and UVB rays.
UVA Rays: These rays penetrate the skin more deeply and are primarily responsible for premature aging and skin damage. They can also contribute to skin cancer.
UVB Rays: These rays are the main cause of sunburn and play a significant role in developing skin cancer.
Using a broad-spectrum sunscreen helps ensure comprehensive protection from the harmful effects of both types of ultraviolet radiation, reducing your risk of skin cancer and helping maintain healthier, more youthful skin. For optimal protection, it's essential to apply broad-spectrum sunscreen daily, even on cloudy days. UV rays can even penetrate windows
Our formula has been rigorously tested, and we’re proud to be certified reef-friendly!
Scientific research indicates that chemicals like oxybenzone, butylparaben, octinoxate, and 4-methylbenzylidene camphor—found in over 3,500 sunscreen products globally—are highly detrimental to delicate coral reefs. In fact, coral can begin to die within just 96 hours of exposure to even low levels of these sunscreen ingredients.
At Sun and Daughter, we ensure that our sunscreen is free from harmful chemicals.
